The Gentle Shift into Fall 🍂

As the air turns crisp and the days grow shorter, I always find myself pausing a little more often. There’s something about the beginning of fall that invites reflection — maybe it’s the quiet rhythm of nature letting go, maybe it’s the beauty in watching the leaves slowly change.
Fall reminds us that change, even when it feels hard, can be breathtaking.
For those of us grieving, this season can bring a mix of emotions. The cozy, warm colors and smells might feel comforting one day and bittersweet the next. The shorter days can make grief feel heavier, while the crisp air can also bring moments of fresh perspective. Both are okay to feel.
Here are a few gentle ways I like to welcome the season:
Take a slow walk outside. Notice the leaves, the sound of them crunching, the way the air feels on your skin.
Bring nature inside. A small pumpkin, a pretty branch, or a vase of fall flowers can bring comfort to your space.
Light a candle. Watching a flame flicker on a cooler evening can feel like a small ritual of remembrance.
Journal or share your story. As we watch nature let go, we can reflect on what we’ve been holding tightly — and whether we’re ready to release a little too.
Fall invites us to find beauty even in times of letting go. For those carrying grief, it’s a reminder that even as some things fall away, new growth will come — in its own time, and in its own season.
How does fall make you feel this year? Comforted, heavy, peaceful, nostalgic — or a little bit of everything?
I’d love to hear your reflections. 💛
